Jennifer Johnston’s Waiting starring Geraldine Plunkett, directed by Caroline Fitzgerald. Jennifer Johnston reads from her new work Naming the Stars.

Jennifer Johnston is a novelist, dramatist and short story writer. She has written more than twenty novels and many plays. Her first novel The Captains and the Kings (1972) won the Yorkshire Post Book Award and the Evening Standard Award. The Gates and How Many Miles to Babylon? followed. Her novel Shadows on our Skin was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. She won the Whitbread Novel Award for The Old Jest in 1979. Her latest work is Naming the Stars.

Geraldine Plunkett started acting in the Abbey Theatre. She has played in theatres all over Ireland and abroad. Plays include Famine, Juno and the Paycock, The Factory Girls, The House and The Glass Menagerie. She appeared recently in Ghost Stories by Isobel Mahon. Also Pinching for my Soul by Deirdre Moynihan and Woman and Scarecrow by Marina Carr. Geraldine has appeared in Film, TV and Radio plays including Glenroe, The Clinic and currently, Fair City.
