Dalkey Town Hall was built around 1893. The entrance
to the Town Hall is through the ground floor of Goat Castle.
The upstairs room of the Towerhouse had been converted and
used as a Council Chamber for the Dalkey Town Commissioners
from 1868.
Nowadays the Town Hall is used as a popular community facility.
It is owned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council http://www.dlrcoco.ie/ and
managed on site by Dalkey Castle & Heritage
Centre.
Two locally based drama groups, Dalkey Players and St Patrick's
Dramatic Society, stage regular theatrical productions and
Drama Festivals here. The Hall is frequently used as a theatre
venue by other groups wishing to hire a venue. It has a 20'
by 15' stage with 3' apron, fine wing space, dressing rooms
and a computerised lighting rig. It seats 220 people. The
sprung maple floor of the hall itself is eminently suited
to dance.
Each week there are Karate Classes on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings.
A highly popular weekly Farmers' Market is held here every
Friday from 10.00 until 4.00pm with the best of farm
fresh and organic produce.
The venue is used for many diverse functions and is available
for hire. |
