Travel back in time with costumed actors on the Dalkey Castle group tour. Our reception guides and costumed actors will bring the history to life for you with a live theatre performance as part of every Guided Tour.
The structured part of the tour lasts one hour and you are free to browse afterwards.  Fully guided one-hour group tours can be booked in advance!

The Master or the Mistress are both fully conversant in the skills of Barber Surgery and delight in passing on their knowledge to the visitor. 

Travel back in time with costumed actors on every tour.

The Archer demonstrates his skill in using the longbow and
the various arrow heads. You will hear him use terminology still used today.

The Cook prepares delicious delights for the evening’s feast. The house speciality is hedgehog pie.

The Coin Minter visits on special occasions when cash is running low. The Dalkey Hoard, found
in Dalkey in 1838, dates back to 939 – 975 AD.

What should I expect to see on the tour?

You will have time to browse the site where you will see:

• An Early Christian Church & Graveyard dating back to 700AD

• The 14th century mini castle (1390) with all its defensive features intact: Murder Hole, Machicolation and Battlements.

• A Heritage Centre with interactive screens (in 12 languages) and scaled models.

• A Writers’ Gallery featuring the work of 45 writers and creative artists from Joyce to Bono and Beckett to Maeve Binchy.
